A Montenegro yacht charter,
written one sea mile at a time.

From our marina office in Tivat we sail catamarans, sailboats, motor yachts and luxury yachts across the Boka Bay of Montenegro, down to Budva and out into the open Adriatic. Day rentals to week-long charters. Skipper optional, always - a Montenegro yacht charter rental for any boat type is available with the full price list in one phone call, bareboat or crewed yachting.

This page is the long version of what we tell guests when they sit down with us for the first time. The fleet, the bay, a typical day at sea, the prices, and the questions everyone asks before they book a yacht. Some questions are about the boat, some about the local sailing, all of them about the experience on the water.

There is the Boka Bay you reach by car. Then there is the bay you reach by yacht. They are not the same place - and the second one is the whole reason we do this work.
From the desk of the skipper

Why a Montenegro yacht charter, and why with us

There are few corners of the Mediterranean world where you can sail a fjord in the morning, swim at a stunning sand beach by lunch and have dinner in a walled medieval city the same evening. A yacht charter in Montenegro packs all of that into one of the most beautiful coastlines on the Adriatic - a compact, easy-to-sail destination from Tivat across to Kotor and down to Budva. We have spent twelve seasons matching guests to yachts; the search for your boat is the part of the job we like most.

From a small motorboat for two to a luxury yacht for twelve, every charter we run is built around the people on board. Tell us how many cabins and berths you need, the length of your trip, and what you want to see, and we will come back with a yacht rental that fits. Whether you book a one-day boat trip or a full week of crewed yachting, our team will help you find the perfect yacht, design the right itinerary and discover the bay the way locals see it.

Twelve seasons. One harbour. Every Montenegro yacht charter we run is shaped by the season before, by the people we meet at the marina, by the questions guests bring to the office. Booking with us is one phone call - we come back with a yacht, a price per cabin and a sample itinerary the same day.

01 / The Fleet

Pick the yacht that fits the trip.

A Montenegro yacht charter starts with the boat. Four types in our fleet, each suited to a different kind of week on the water - choose by group size, by speed, by how much you want to feel the wind on your face.

i.

The Sailboat

When you book a sailboat with us you book a Mediterranean tradition. A 38 to 50 foot monohull, three or four cabins below, a deep keel that lets the boat lean gently into the wind. The classic sailing experience - authentic, quiet, and the best price per cabin in our fleet. Beneteau, Jeanneau, Bavaria - the names you see in every Adriatic harbour.

ii.

The Catamaran

Two hulls, four equal double cabins, eight to ten berths and a wide shaded bridge deck. The catamaran is the most stable platform on the water - almost no heel, ideal for families with kids or guests new to sailing. On a windless day this boat moves under engines without rolling. Our most-booked yacht for groups planning a longer itinerary in the bay.

The Motor Yacht

A motor yacht - or smaller motorboat - is the right choice when you want to cover ground. Tivat to Sveti Stefan in 90 minutes, three different beaches in a single day, back at the marina for dinner. Two to four cabins below the main deck and a generous fuel range. The boat to choose when your week-long itinerary covers many ports without time to waste on slow sailing legs.

The Luxury Yacht

For weddings, milestone birthdays and corporate events we keep a small selection of luxury yachts above 60 feet - five double cabins, full crew with captain, hostess and chef. The most exclusive way to charter a yacht in Montenegro. Each yacht in this category we offer exclusively for one charter at a time, so the experience stays private from the moment you step aboard the boat.

02 / The Bay

And what is in it.

Six destinations worth a stop, written in the order most Montenegro yacht charter days visit them. From these six destinations we plan most weekly itineraries - pick three for a long weekend, all six for the full week.

i.

Kotor

Kotor sits inside a fjord. The medieval old town walls climb the hillside; from the deck of your yacht the bay looks like a Norwegian fjord that learned the Mediterranean light. Its UNESCO walls reach St John's fortress for a panoramic view of the bay worth the climb. Anchor outside the harbour and take the dinghy in for an afternoon walk through the lanes of the city.

ii.

Perast

A single baroque street on the water with two islands offshore. Our Lady of the Rocks is a small artificial island built stone by stone over centuries. The view of the islands from offshore is the photograph travel magazines around the world print most often, and the one almost every guest sends home from a Boka Bay charter.

iii.

Tivat

Our home base. Porto Montenegro is the most modern marina on the south Adriatic - a deep-water harbour with restaurants, cafés and a direct airport link minutes away. Easy provisioning, easy parking, and the marina office offers walk-in support throughout the high season. Stop by for coffee even if you only need to find out which Montenegro yacht is right for your trip.

iv.

Herceg Novi

At the very mouth of the bay. Its walled old town sits above a pebble beach, the city offers some of the bay's best fish restaurants, and the open ocean is right there for longer day passages along the coast. Many sailing weeks use Herceg Novi as the last overnight before turning back into the bay toward Tivat.

v.

Budva & Sveti Stefan

South of the bay. Budva offers golden beaches and a busy old town; Sveti Stefan is one of the most beautiful and most photographed island spots on the Mediterranean coast. Together they cover the south of the country, and a single charter day on a motor yacht can include both, with a swim stop in between.

vi.

Blue Lagoon & Mamula

At the tip of the Luštica peninsula. Turquoise water, pine trees, almost no swell. The perfect lunch stop on a long sailing day, ideal for a swim without too many other boats around. Combine with the historic Mamula island fortress nearby for a half-day adventure - explore the sea caves with a snorkel before heading back to the marina.

03 / The Logbook

Six sailing experiences worth a Montenegro yacht charter.

From the working notebook of our skippers - the moments past guests still write about months later. Each one fits inside a single day on board, and most can be combined on a longer week of sailing.

i.

Sail past the two islands of Perast

A short sailing leg from Tivat brings the yacht to the most photographed view in the bay. Step ashore at Our Lady of the Rocks for a few minutes, then sail back along the old town walls of Kotor. A view from the sea you cannot find any other way, on any other Montenegro yacht charter.

ii.

Anchor at the Blue Lagoon

The lagoon at the tip of Luštica looks like a postcard - turquoise water, pine trees, almost no swell. A perfect mid-day swim stop on any sailing itinerary, ideal if you have kids on board the boat. Many charter days end here for a long lunch.

iii.

Discover hidden beaches by boat

Some of the best beaches in Montenegro are reachable only by boat. Our skippers know the empty coves locals use - far from the crowded city beaches of Budva town. Bring a snorkel and find your own quiet bay; this is what a yacht charter delivers that a beach club cannot.

iv.

Sail into the open Adriatic

Beyond Herceg Novi the bay opens onto the ocean. Catch real wind on a sailboat, watch dolphins, see the Croatian island of Mljet on a clear day - a small adventure inside a bigger sailing trip, the kind of moment a Montenegro yacht charter is built around.

v.

See Sveti Stefan from the sea

The Sveti Stefan island village is most beautiful from the water. Anchor offshore for an hour, take photos against the stunning Adriatic backdrop, then continue south along the Budva Riviera at your own pace - the boat lets you stay as long as you like.

vi.

Explore Mamula and the sea caves

Mamula island sits at the entrance to the bay. Its old fortress walls and the sea caves nearby are a memorable stop on any boat charter - pure adventure, with the open ocean a few miles further out to explore on your next charter day, no Google search needed once your skipper is on board.

04 / A Day at Sea

Eight hours from Tivat.

A typical day charter, told as a clock. Times shift by season; the rhythm does not. Expect the boat to be the slowest, most beautiful classroom of the year - and a Montenegro yacht charter day to be the highlight of the week on the water.

10:00

Briefing at the marina

Coffee at the office in Porto Montenegro. The skipper goes over the route, the weather, the lunch options. Bags on board, life jackets shown, sunscreen out. Departure within the hour.

11:00

Sail past Perast

A short sailing leg from Tivat into the inner bay. Up close to the two islands and the old town walls of Kotor, then back along the deeper water. The view from the sea is the one you cannot find any other way.

12:30

Swim near Mamula

Anchor in clear water, drop the swim ladder. The lagoon side of Luštica is shallow enough to see the bottom from the deck of the yacht. Snorkels and fins on board, bring a hat.

14:00

Lunch on board, or ashore

A simple lunch from the galley, or step off at a port restaurant in Perast town. Both options come at no extra time cost - this is the part of the day to slow down and let the bay do its thing.

15:30

The slow leg back

Cruise back through the bay at three knots. Late-afternoon Boka light is the best in the Mediterranean - look up often, the cliffs change colour as the sun moves toward the ocean.

18:00

Coffee on deck, then ashore

Back at the marina. Settle the fuel bill, sign off the boat, walk into Porto Montenegro for an early dinner. A good day on board ends slowly, never in a rush.

The long weekend

Three days, two nights aboard. Tivat to Perast to overnight in Kotor; Kotor to Mamula to overnight Herceg Novi; back to Tivat via the Blue Lagoon. From €1,400, ideal for a sailboat or catamaran with four to six guests on board.

The Adriatic week

Seven days, the full Montenegrin coast. Boka Bay tour, south to Budva and Sveti Stefan, an optional crossing into Croatia (Cavtat is two hours from Herceg Novi), then back via the Luštica peninsula. From €3,500, all yacht types available.

05 / Practical

Prices, packing, paperwork.

The boring part - written plainly so there are no surprises at handover. A Montenegro yacht charter is honestly priced; we list every line so you can see where the money goes. Some line items are optional, more are included than you think; the table below covers everything to budget for.

Prices include VAT. Fuel pay-as-you-use. Outside marina fees, food and end-of-charter cleaning billed separately. Booking opens 12 months in advance - early booking secures the best yacht and the best price per cabin during high summer.

When to sail

Late May through early October. Peak weather in July and August. Best value (lower prices, fewer boats, the same warm sea) is May, June and September. Locals will tell you the shoulder season is the best time of the year to sail without crowds.

What to pack

Soft-sided bags only - rigid suitcases do not fit cabin storage. Non-marking deck shoes, swimwear, sun protection, a light layer for the evening sail back, any prescription medication. Towels and bed linen are included on every yacht.

With or without a skipper

Every yacht in our fleet is available with a professional local skipper. STCW certified, English-speaking, born on these waters. For bareboat rental you need an ICC license and a VHF certificate; we run you through the boat handover before you leave the marina.

Mooring etiquette

Most marinas in Boka Bay accept day visitors but call ahead during high season. Anchoring is restricted in some coves to protect the marine environment, especially around Sveti Stefan and the inner lagoon. Our skippers know the approved spots.

06 / Bases

Yacht charter from Tivat, Kotor or Budva.

Most of our boats are based at Porto Montenegro in Tivat, but a Montenegro yacht charter can begin from Kotor or Budva too. Pick the city closest to where you are staying and we will deliver the boat. Sailing experience or no sailing experience, it is the same easy process - explore the country at your own pace.

i.

From Tivat

Our home base. The full fleet of yachts and smaller boats is here - sailboat, catamaran, motor yacht and luxury yacht. Walk-in customers welcome at the marina office; the airport is five minutes away by car. The most flexible starting point for any Montenegro yacht charter, and the natural choice if you want maximum boat selection on day one of your trip.

ii.

From Kotor

Boat delivery to the Kotor old town pier in 30 minutes. The right pick if you are staying in the medieval Kotor centre and want to start your yacht charter at the foot of the city walls. Sailboats, catamarans and motor yachts can all be delivered to Kotor for a small extra fee - well worth it if Kotor is the reason you came to Montenegro.

iii.

From Budva

For southern itineraries we deliver yachts and smaller motor boats to Budva marina. A natural choice if Sveti Stefan and the south of Montenegro are the main reason for your trip - or if you want to skip the cruise across the bay and start a Montenegro yacht charter directly on the open coast.

07 / Why Here

And not somewhere else.

If you are weighing a Croatia charter, a Greece week, an Italy trip or even a Caribbean adventure, here is what makes a Montenegro yacht charter stand out from the other charter destinations on the Mediterranean and beyond.

Compact

From Tivat you reach a new destination every two hours of sailing - Kotor, Perast, Mamula, Sveti Stefan, the Blue Lagoon. Croatia and Greece offer more islands; Montenegro packs more variety into a smaller area, ideal for a one-week itinerary or a long weekend.

Calm waters

Boka Bay is a sheltered, inland sea - perfect for guests new to sailing or for families with small children. Outside the bay, the open Adriatic offers more wind for experienced sailors. You get both options without changing destinations, something Italy and Turkey rarely match.

Less crowded

Compared with a Croatia charter in August, Boka Bay feels noticeably calmer. The main Mediterranean charter circuits push tens of thousands of yachts through the islands every summer; Montenegro keeps the same scenery without the queue at the fuel dock.

Real history

Compared with a Caribbean charter you get walled medieval cities, real local food and a thousand years of seafaring stories alongside the sea. Montenegro is the rare yacht charter destination that doubles as a living museum - and our local skipper will tell the stories better than any guidebook.

Better value

Per cabin and per day, a Montenegro yacht charter is one of the more honestly priced options on the Mediterranean. You pay less than for a comparable boat - sailboat, catamaran or motorboat - in Greece or Turkey, and you skip the long delivery passages between charter bases.

Easy logistics

Tivat airport is five minutes from our marina; Dubrovnik in Croatia is an hour by road. No long ferry transfer, no third-country paperwork to find your boat. You land, you board, you sail - that simple.

08 / Voices

From past guests.

Six hundred five-star reviews and counting. Three of the recent reviews, in their own words - from past Montenegro yacht charter experiences this summer season.

"
We took a catamaran for a week with our two kids. The skipper Marko knew every quiet beach in the bay and the boat was spotless. Best family holiday we have done in years - the kids did not want to come back ashore.

Booked a sailboat day charter for my partner's birthday. Perast, Mamula, Kotor, all in one stunning day. The price was fair, the boat was new and our skipper made the experience feel personal. My new favourite way to see Montenegro.

As a licensed sailor I really appreciated how smooth the bareboat handover was. Honest contract, transparent deposit policy and a thorough briefing on the bay. Will be back next season for the longer week-long charter.

09 / Questions

Yacht charter in Montenegro - the questions everyone asks.

Quick answers to the most common questions. If yours is not here, the phone at the top of this page is the fastest way to reach the office.

Do I need a license for a Montenegro yacht charter?

For a bareboat rental, yes - typically an ICC license plus a VHF certificate. With a professional skipper on board no license is required and anyone can book. The skipper handles the boat, the mooring and the marina paperwork.

When is the best month to sail?

Late May through early October. Peak weather and warmest sea water in July and August. The best value (good weather, lower prices, fewer boats in the bay) is May, June and September.

How many people sleep on board?

Depends on the boat type. Most cruising sailboats sleep 6-8 in 3 or 4 cabins. Catamarans have 4 double cabins and 8-10 berths. Motor yachts vary from 2 to 4 cabins. Day charters can take up to 12 guests on board without overnight cabin capacity being a constraint.

Can I sail to Croatia or Albania?

Yes. Most week-long charters include an optional border crossing. Cavtat in Croatia is around two hours of sailing from Herceg Novi; Albania is possible with longer notice for paperwork. Your skipper will handle the customs formalities at the maritime border.

Is fuel included?

Fuel is pay-as-you-use. Every yacht is delivered with a full tank and returned the same way - you only pay for what you actually burn. For a typical sailing day fuel costs €40-€80; for a motor yacht €150-€300 depending on speed.

What about transfers from the airport?

Tivat airport is five minutes from our marina by car. Podgorica is around 90 minutes. Send us your flight details when you book and we will arrange a private transfer at cost.

What happens if the weather is bad?

Our skippers monitor the forecast every morning. In the rare cases when sailing the open coast is unsafe we either reschedule the day, stay inside the sheltered Boka Bay, or refund according to our weather policy. Safety is the only reason we cancel a sailing day.

How do I book?

Two steps. A 30% deposit holds the dates, the balance is due two weeks before departure. Bank transfer and major cards. The boat security deposit is taken at check-in by card pre-authorisation and refunded after the charter.

Adria Marine on the marine environment - we anchor only on sandy bottoms to protect the seagrass meadows of the Boka Bay; the bigger boats in the fleet collect waste at every marina. A small thing, but the world's most beautiful enclosed bay deserves boats that respect its waters. We offer twelve seasons of Boka Bay yachting, more than 600 reviews from past Montenegro yacht charter guests and destinations no Caribbean alternative can quite match - earned during summer after summer of sailing the same coast, per the simple rules the locals here respect. One Montenegro yacht charter philosophy: the boat matters less than the people on board.
